The Jeff Jolly Band's new CD, '"The Runner" (Boff), shows that the the band has an
expansive blues-rock sound that encompasses many other styles effectively. The
most immediately striking things about the disc are (Jolly's) fluid and inventive lead
guitar work and his impressive original songs. While there's not a mediocre song
among the 12, the best cuts are the straight-ahead rock of "Long Distance Love"
with its sinewy lead lines, the jazzier sounding "A Believer" (with Zero's Martin Fierro
on tenor sax) and the haunting instrumental "S.R.V. (We'll Miss You)", a tribute to the late
Stevie Ray Vaughn.'
